FEED
SRFA provides its herd with only the best-known quality feed, minerals and fibre nutrient supplements on the market today. Blue Seal currently produces an alpaca feed formulated by Dr. Norm Evans, which we have used exclusively since early 2007. Dr. Norm has developed a brand new product that will be sold across North America in 2008 under the Blue Seal name which we, along with another Ontario farm, have been chosen to test for the Canadian climate. Our test results will provide Dr. Norm with specific information on his newly formulated feed in improving our animals' health and fibre quality.
Along with Dr. Norm's feed, we supply each animal daily with a free-choice mineral manufactured by Natural Animal Supplement Corp., Ponoka, Alberta, and Evans Fibre Nutrients E-- a daily supplement for fibre improvement. We at SRFA provide only the finest health care and feed in an effort to raise the healthiest alpacas possible with superior fleece characteristics.
All our animals are given hay grown on SRFA land, which contains a protein average of approximately 12% to 14%. In the summer, they free graze on our pasture grass.
Each year, we strive to attend as many educational seminars as possible so that we keep ourselves constantly updated on any new alpaca findings and issues. In addition, we are in constant touch with other Canadian farms and ranches who have supported us in our alpaca endeavors.
